The Conversation Between Mike and Jack
There's this movie called Penguin's Memory: A Tale of Happiness. A clip from it went viral a couple years ago with the title "Club Penguin In The Vietnam War (1955-1975 Colorized)". I was intrigued and curious about how the movie was, and I was looking for new films to watch, so I found it and watched it. It was really good, I actually really liked it. Very good animation and nice story, surprisingly emotional. Some of the backgrounds from this film look amazing. The music is great too. There's a scene where the main penguin, Mike, decides to become a nomad and travel the country, and the music that plays during this scene is amazing.
There's this other scene from it that has stuck with me the most, and I think about it frequently. It happens at around 1:06:30 in the film. The villain penguin of the film is called Jack. He's jealous of Mike and has the woman penguin Jill's dad's approval, so he ruins their relationship. Mike feels dejected, so he starts avoiding Jill. Jill is devastated, and Jack is aware. A while later, while Mike is walking through a park, Jack comes to talk to him. The scene takes place in this beautiful autumn setting. Jack asks Mike, "Are you confident that you can make Jill happy?" Mike doesn't answer, he says nothing. Jack laughs, "If you could immediately say 'yes', you'd either be too full of yourself or a big liar." I quite liked this line, it's memorable. I have even kinda stolen it for one of my posts hehe. So then Jack continues,
"I hear that in the Far East, China has a 4,000 year history of war. Egypt and Mesopotamia too. Even though the whole world knows it's foolish, we've gone to war again and again. In all that despair, why do you think we've been able to live on? It's love. We never ran away from love. We could never close our hearts to love."
I feel like the overcoming power of love was sort of a reoccurring theme with the films that I saw in 2024 (when I saw this one). It didn't happen intentionally, I was watching random-ass movies that had nothing to do with each other. And I think I found some real treasures that way.
