NEW MITSKI !!!
New Mitski song!!! Finally! I'm so happy!
First impression: It's about a song about not wanting to think about things going on in your life, so you want to distract yourself completely. Enter into this state where you're thinking about nothing. It's kinda obvious with the lines "I just want my mind to be a clear glass / Clear glass with nothing in my head." The significance of the phone is that when you don't want to be thinking or doing things, you pick your phone up and start to scroll mindlessly. Could be one of those shortform video platforms, or a microblogging site, and you scroll through it to distract yourself to not have to think about stuff.
There's a line that goes "If night is like you punched a hole into tomorrow / I would fuck the hole all night long." I don't think this is sexual, it's more like "I could kiss you," you know? The night is a hole into tomorrow in that you go to sleep. You fall asleep, and you wake up, and you have been transported to tomorrow. There's a hole between here and then, where you didn't need to think about anything. And that's exactly what the narrator wants.
"Bug floating in the amber" similarly, these are insects that have been frozen in time for millennia.
"Where's my phone? Where's my phone?" then leads into "Where'd I go? Where'd I go?" When you enter into this state where all you're doing is mindlessly looking at your phone, you sort of leave your own self out. You become a completely passive element in the experience. Your personality has no place to go, it can't come through or express itself. You stop being a creature that feels emotions or holds opinions. You stop doing the things that are characteristic of you, even things you like doing. The things that make you you are suspended.
